Paste up
Using adhesive to layout galleys of type objects onto a sheet of paper or board. A camera is used to shoot a film negative of the board. The film negative is then arranged into page spreads.  A platemaker prints the page spreads to a plate for the printing press. Every color on a page required a repeat of the process just described.
Direct to Plate
Allows all pages to be laid out using computer software and printed directly to the printing press plate. This process saves time, produces a cleaner image and eliminates expensive film charges. Each color on a page requires a repeat of the last step.

I entered the workforce 25 years ago as a graphic designer for KNA Press, a printing company located in Kennett Square. During my ten years with KNA Press, we went from Paste Up to Direct to Plate. We were using phototypesetters to produce long galleys of type for mechanical paste up to paper. That didn't last long and soon switched to QuarkXpress, Photoshop, digital scanning and outputting layouts directly to film. After 10 years of graphic print experience, I became interested in web design — the Internet was just becoming popular as a way to reach the world.

About that time, a new venture was formed in Kennett Square — Beacon Technologies.  The mission was to provide Internet access, IT support, web hosting and email.  We began offering web design as well.  Our very first client was The Kennett Paper. While there, I managed our web servers, met with clients, and created both static and interactive websites, for 13 years.

I'm now owner of DG Designs where I provide reliable, custom, attentive services for web design, SEO, email newsletters, programming and marketing with as little technical jargon as you like. While you are here, take a look at our portfolio.

Let me put DG Design's experience in technology and design to work for you.  Give us a call — 610-869-8561, drop us an emaildebra@dgdesignonline.com or fill out the contact form.  You choose!
